TRANSFER
Transferring the cremation ashes of a loved one from a temporary container to a special Urn is a deeply sentimental and meaningful task, symbolising the transition from one form of remembrance to another. It is a moment filled with both sorrow and reverence. Each movement, each gesture, is imbued with love and respect, a tender acknowledgment of the profound bond shared with the departed. As we carefully transfer the ashes, we may find solace in the ritual, finding comfort in the tangible act of honouring their memory. Decanting ashes can be a meaningful and simple process with these 6 steps.
To transfer ashes from a temporary source to one of Yurn’s cremation Urns, use our Love & Care Pack supplied. This includes the necessary equipment to decant the ashes. Firstly, put on the disposable gloves and prepare your Urn by wiping it down with the dry microfibre towel.

Using the supplied cremation bag, straighten the plastic by running your hand from the base to the top of the bag in one movement. Insert the bag into your Urn, to line the vessel, pushing it down until it reaches the bottom. Fan open the bag and drag the opening up and over the neck of the vessel. Ensure there is enough bag to sit over the neck and down the exterior of the Urn. The bag may sink further into the Urn due to the weight of the ashes as they are poured.
OPTIONAL: Once the bag is in place, a funnel can be used to help guide ashes into the vessel. Decanting ashes without a funnel can still be achieved with care and attention when pouring.
Now it’s time to prepare the temporary bag containing the ashes. Cut the existing zip tie, if applicable. Grab the bag down closest to the ashes to block the opening. With the other hand, stroke the bag upwards so the top of the bag becomes stiff and straight. Lift and move the ashes close to the Urn to get ready to pour. Bend the end of the ashes bag and insert it neatly into the Urn then, in one swift movement, tip the ashes bag so all the ashes fall into the new Urn bag. Monitor the flow and encourage the ashes to transfer by gently shaking the bag, if needed.
Once all the ashes have decanted, remove the old bag and place it in the recycling bin. Close the new bag by lifting the sides and drawing together again. Twist the top of the bag then secure it with the zip tie just inside the neck of the Urn where it can be accessed again. The bag opening can now be pushed down inside the Urn. After closing and securing the bag, you may wish to include a small personal item or a note to go with the ashes.
The lid can be applied by aligning the opening with the bottom tier and gently pushing down until the top tier aligns with the Urn’s neck. The velvet foam band on the lid rim creates a seal for reliability and security.
Using the supplied dry microfibre towel, wipe the exterior of your Urn in case any particles settled on it during the transfer. Place your Urn in the desired location. Style your Urn and its new setting to create a memorable space that can forever be cherished and celebrated.
