URNS & TRANSFER
What size urn do I need?
The right size depends on who the urn is for and whether the ashes will be kept together or shared.
For most adults, a full-size urn is recommended. Some families also choose smaller urns or keepsakes if they plan to divide ashes.
How are ashes returned to a family from the crematorium?
It can depend on the crematorium, however most ashes are placed in a plastic bag. This bag is then put inside a temporary Urn or container. The family can then transport the remains safely.
How do I transfer ashes to an Urn?
To move the ashes from the temporary container into a more permanent vessel like an Urn, you can use the bag which has been supplied. You may choose to keep the ashes in the bag and simply move the filled bag from the temporary container to your permanent Urn.
If you are wanting to remove the ashes from the plastic bag, locate one of the bottom corners of the bag, and cut a corner off in a diagonal direction. This will allow the ashes to fall freely from the bag into the Urn.
Do I need to seal the Urn?
Not always.
Many urns are designed to close securely without being permanently sealed, allowing families the flexibility to open them if needed. Others can be sealed for long-term placement.
It simply depends on what feels right for you.
Where can I use a Yurn vessel?
Yurn vessels are designed and made to house human or pet ashes within an internal environment - usually a home. The scattering tubes are designed to temporarily house human or pet ashes which are then scattered. Not all of our vessels are made from materials that withstand the elements of weather, particularly in harsh summers like Queensland. If you plan to store your urn outdoors, its best that you select a material like brass, aluminium or good quality stainless steel.

If more than one family member would like to retain ashes, it is a popular choice to select urn sets or small urns. This allows ashes to be evenly distributed between two or three people and stored in a similar vessel that is part of a story set. Families feel comforted by the idea of having companion vessels that bring them all closer to their loved one.
Which products can be recycled?
Many of the Yurn vessels can be reused and recycled in various ways. All of Yurn's scattering tubes are biodegradable, therefore will break down if you decide to bury it. Most of the urns are made using materials which come from natural sources. However, materials such as ceramic can take a long time to break down. If you no longer require your Urn, we recommend you place it in a recycling bin so it can be crushed and reused into a range of useful products. This helps divert waste away from landfill and helps lower emissions and toxic outputs used in production processes.

How do you use the scattering tubes?
Scattering tubes can be ready to use in 6 simple steps. First, remove the lid to the tube by gently pulling and with a slight twisting motion. Next, remove the inner white tube with the open end facing up. Fill the white tube with ashes. Line up the outer tube on the opening and push outer tube down over inner white tube. Once the tubes are back together, attach the supplied sticker over the vent hole. Now that the vent hole is sealed, turn the tube over and place the lid on. When you are ready to scatter, remove the lid and push the perforated disc down into the tube to open.
Can the scattering tube be kept after scattering?
Yes, the scattering tube's main purpose is to house ashes temporarily so they can be transported to their final resting place for scattering. Once this is complete families may chose to retaining the tube at home as a keepsake, bury the tube where ashes were scattered (as it will biodegrade), keep the tube to reuse for another family member, recycle or compost it. The tube could also be donated to another family or a local funeral home to help those in financial need.
